Hi:
Just thought I would share this link to The Evangeline Cobalt Daily. This on-line paper comes out twice daily. I always like to write the editorial.

This week the main news is the devastation of this Hurricane Sandy. I like to share all the news I can and offer people a quick read on a lot of things.

I was a newspaper journalist for a number of years.

Meanwhile, I am trying to finish writing two books and am a little behind on both of them.

Haunted Houses

HAUNTED HOUSES

There is something about the weather, when it turns cooler, when it gets stormier and then fall and winter sets in. Oftentimes people like to celebrate the fall with Halloween activities in October and slightly before.
This year, we thought we would get into this spirit and so I completed a book which I had been working on for some time.
I find the subject of Haunted Houses fascinating. One of the most famous is this one
The Winchester House

Owls are fascinating subjects

WE LOVE THE MYSTERIOUS OWLS OF NATURE

So many people find Owls fascinating and they have been of intense interest probably throughout time.

IF YOU LIKE HAUNTED STUFF

I have a book out just now about the horror of a haunted house. I thought it was a good idea, began to work on it some years ago, and then got the real desire to write it and did.

Fall is arriving now, and along with fall leaves, around here there are all kinds of pumpkins and things like that which appear on the porches, ours included.

Meanwhile, we love all things fall, and start thinking of hot cocoa in assorted mugs, and late nights of telling stories to each and all. This is a tradition in my family which dates way back. I can remember my Grandma chilling us to the bone as she told us stories which had probably been passed down in her own time. We would sometimes scream with fright and she would of course emphasize a special moment in her story by grabbing us while we screamed. We loved to play hide and seek in her rambling old house and she would come and find us.

So, I thought, why not bring out my own book about Haunted Houses and the thrill (sometimes horror) they can bring to an unwary visitor.

Today, on Amazon.com I have such a story.

THE WIND HAS BEEN BAD AND WE HAD TO ANCHOR

Review of Robyn's Egg

Moyer Winfield probably couldn't believe what it would take to save his marriage. His wife, Robyn, wanted a baby. Easier said than done in this thriller about a world much like our own, except pumped up several degrees into a zone of futuristic horror. I personally liked Robyn's Egg by Mark Souza. He is a horror writer I found interesting when I read his short story "Road Kill" which appeared in the Anthology 101 Flash.
But in Robyn's Egg, I got caught up in this loving couple's tremendous struggle to survive and to have a child. Just living was a struggle, much like in modern days, trying to make ends meet; they did not have the money to outright purchase a cloned baby. This was the only way, they were told because of the havocs on their world caused by biological warfare.
As this couple seeks to enhance their love for each other through trying to live a normal life, they are drawn into a conspiracy of horror.
I found how they handled these magnified capsules of difficult situations reminding me of an Orson Wells work, captivating, fantasy, and yet so real, it flat gave me chills.

BOOK REVIEW
By Anna Patterson, Journalist

JULIE ANNE LINDSEY
According to biographical data, Julie was "born and raised" in Ohio. She has lovingly used this knowledge of rural life in her Sweet Romance Novella BLOOM.

This novel which concerns the quest for fulfillment, from the large cities such as New York, back to the rural country life these people had found their roots and home in. The novella heralded the launch by Turquoise Morning Press of the new Honey Creek line in January of this year. Julie's future writing plans include three novellas for the Seeds of Love Series.

I like the writer's own explanation of herself. "I'd rather read a book than do almost anything else." But again, it is her own philosophy which explains why her book BLOOM is such a darling of a read. She says, "I started writing because I want to make people smile."

In the book, Cynthia Potter, comes back to town seeking many things. And she has some problems, serious ones to consider. She also has thoughts about some she had left in Honey Creek, when she left it many years ago.  She is considering all of these issues along the way.

"She knew she was headed to New York long before she got there." Now the young girl is seeking direction for her life and wonders if the answer to love was in Honey Creek, Ohio, with her first love. But a new man, Mitchell Fallon, a stranger to her, just keeps getting in her way, in more ways than one. Cynthia's life is going to take some twists and turns for sure if "Love is to bloom" for her.

I would have to give this book five stars. It did indeed make me smile many times, and I got drawn into these people's lives and wanted to see how they turned out. I liked the look of this rural way of life, but also enjoyed the realities of life in general these people were facing.

The Genre: Contemporary Romance. Heat level: Sweet

A poem for Poem in your Pocket Day, an international day recognizing the value of poetry in daily life

WHEN DAY BREAKS

By Anna Patterson

When Day Breaks

The shadows still fall dark
Against the rose patterned hall
The shadows of dreams still flicker
On the mind

When Day Breaks
There is silence still
Until the first car goes by
Signaling tasks to do
For it is morning

What lingering dread
Still duty calls in the fading dew
For me and you:
The Day Breaks.

We would be drawn
To the bed to sleep again
But the shadows give way to sunlight
And duty calls with a harkening
No one can ignore.

I thought I saw something
In a dream or nightmare
A fire breathing dragon
And I held back in fear
Waiting on you with your
Arm and might to save me

So now I am not afraid
My senses gather like soldiers
And Fierceness of what may
What might
Knowing you are there for me
I am so glad, so very glad to see
When Day Breaks
Your lovely face staring out at me.

When Day Breaks

Book Review

The Secrets to E-book Publishing Success.
(How to Reach More Readers with Your Words
By Mark Coker

This 35,581 word publication is free.
* * *
This is a detailed, comprehensive book which reveals to writers, authors, publishers, and literary agents, much sought after jewels hidden from most people searching for the answer to this type of success. Thanks to Mark Coker's book, a clear map is lined out showing the twenty-five best practices for writing and publishing.
Other works by Coker include: Smash words Style guide; Smashwords Book Marketing guide; The 10-minute PR Check list, and Boob Tube.
Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords, has been asked to tell something about this subject many times in conferences and seminars throughout the world. And why not?  Smashwords is the largest distributor of self published e-books in the world.  Embracing 40,000 authors' works which are represented in 100,000 books (and growing), this is an on-going, day to day example of tremendous e-book success.
The secrets have been gleaned from the best practices of the most commercially successful authors at Smashwords.
I personally like the common sense, honest, and yet thoughtfully detailed, and very modest valuable advice book this book truly is.
Many Smashwords authors have landed in the top ten bestseller lists of major e-book retailers. Mark explains in his book, and notes that some also are new New York Times e-book bestsellers.
I, myself, a novice in all things publishing, nonetheless, applaud this latest effort of Mark Coker to explain these very difficult concepts. I was very excited as I started reading this, realizing, for me it is a jewel which I am very glad I found. I think it is a how-to manual which I will keep easily accessible like I did the style guides I kept on my desk while trying to work my way through the college essay classes of my past.
Thanks Mark Coker for this timely how to book on writing and publishing. Something wonderful shall surely come of this sharing project of yours.

Thinking of Easter time

This beautiful Spring time makes me think of Easter.

I so love Spring!

The weather here has turned very beautiful. The flowering trees have gone into full bloom and there is beauty everywhere.
Some rain is expected, but the temperatures have made all of us shed our coats and sweaters.
It is wonderful to feel that Winter is indeed over.

Spring is a time filled with promise. I am busy at work on completing a book and hope to finish it by sometime in April.
Meanwhile, I just love the weather.

HIGHLIGHTING TWO BOOKS

Talking about Space and Space Ship exploration

Many people have all sorts of ideas about the endless possibilities beyond the narrow vision which we have on this planet called Earth. I, myself, like to think what if there were worlds and countries and civilizations way beyond our own home and out there somewhere.
So yes, I became a science fiction-fantasy writer.
This month I am sharing something here about two of my books which are currently published through Smashwords.
The Dead End Survival Project, was published in November of last year. It was written by that extraordinary writer's program called the NaNOWriMo. By finishing this 50,000 plus novel in a month, it became one of the winners.
I love this book and wrote it in the contest under the pen name Evangeline Cobalt. I now have a newspaper which runs on the Internet called The Evangeline Cobalt Weekly, but actually this changes content every day.
But the Dead End Survival Project called me away from my favorite hobbies of painting and cooking, and at the end I had a book I love.
I tell the story of Lance Cabot, a man who is leading a team of an old fashioned space ship, the Thunderbolt 5. They plan to try to rescue a woman captured and taken hostage, called a Visionary.
* * * *
WHEN SHADOWS FALL was published in June of last year. Ezecruis is a man of magic and his trip is one of savagery and mystery.

To me the subject of space is always exciting and I invite people to try these two books out this month.
These will be part of the Smashwords
Read an Ebook Week Sale March 4-10.

New Murder-Suspense book published

I have written a murder mystery
I thought I would share the news, that I have written a muder mystery and it is now published at Smashwords.

THE CASE OF THE MAGIC GOLD MIRROR is a story set in the 1960's.
I wrote the book about a couple involved in the theft of a magic gold mirror. She is an art restorer. Actually the mirror was stolen from him. Stone is a businessman trying to find his art piece.
They meet for the first time at her quaint little cottage. And there is much to gain in an estate there.

Beth is an art restorer helping her uncle. But there is a murder on the loose. Undaunted, her friend continues her own wedding plans.

Sometimes a murder mystery doesn't stop with just one murder.

All for the Love of Cooking!

A THING SO IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW: how to cook!

I believe no matter what, meals are an important thing each and every day. With a tightening of the economy, I believe knowing how to cook a simple, healthy, inexpensive meal can really help the family budget.
I have cooked all of my life. I have been remembering back at some of the grocery stores and things like this which have always been a part of my life.

Grocery Stores have certainly changed, and people have changed, but some of the favorite foods remain the same. And healthy food always remains the same!

I still look at ads and coupons for sales, that is for sure!

I still love to share my recipes with people and show them how to cook things when they ask.

I know about cooking in Hard Times!

THE GREAT DEPRESSION

Lessons learned long ago, might help now!

When times get difficult and people have to economize, it is wonderful to know how to save money at the grocery store and by cooking simple meals.

I have cooked all of my life and thought, maybe it will help to share some of the things I have learned.
